Western Digital My Book World Edition II RAID 1 NAS (WDH2NC20000)Reviewed by A. Parker, 2010-03-03
This drive Western Digital My Book World Edition II - 2 TB (2 x 1
TB) Network Attached Storage WDH2NC20000N (White) is so easy to
connect to the network, install the software on up to 5 computers,
map the drive letters through the installed software and everyone
can begin storing and sharing data right away. Also, the peace of
mind that comes with the RAID 1 option out of the box. If one drive
goes bad, you are still running because of the 2nd drive until the
bad one can be replaced.
The software includes WD Anywhere Backup which allows you to back
up the workstation's nonshared data to the NAS drive and works in
the background keeping all you have selected backed up.
power suppyReviewed by D. Larson, 2010-02-19
I had the unit a few weeks. Backed up fairly easy. Don't like needing to buy more software since that is what makes it back up easy. Had some issues. with it for 10 days, not staying on. turns out the power supply is faulty you hold it just wright and it will power up, but not for long. very frustating. Now I might as well buy a new power supply. Rather than pay shipping and wait. The unit does seam well built I have the WD book 500g that is 3 years old, runnig just fine. That power supply is twice the size and weight.
WD MyBook World Edition 2TB Everything I Wanted!Reviewed by Debbie K. Hilyard, 2010-02-19
After MUCH research on affordable solutions for backing up a Wireless-N home network with 3 laptops and a desktop, I have found the perfect solution for us. Carefully following the installation instructions in the correct order resulted in a smooth installation with no problems. All of our PCs were set up for automatic backups and completed the initial backups in less time than I had expected after reading some of the reviews. Although I have only used about 200 GB of the storage space with all my PCs including the shared area I set up for saving all photos in one location instead of having them scattered among different laptops. This is a much better solution than my previous backup method of periodically manually backing up each PC to DVD's. I have even already successfully recovered a file which had been inadvertently copied over, by retreiving one of 2 file version generations I included in the backup plan. I have also successfully tested remote recovery of several photos using the MioNet interface with no problems while on vacation away from home. I am particularly happy with the RAID mirroring backup redundancy built in out of the box. I would definitely recommend this solution to home users who want an automated backup solution. I have not tested any video streaming so cannot report on that capability.

This device works well, and the software is really easy as well.
That's worth two stars, but the WB2 is about as useful as a third
arm to a sprinter.
The problem is there is no reason that I can think of to have a
storage device of 2tb that only offers max 7-11mbs per second
transfer speed. Even though it says you can have gigabit speeds,
the controller in the box can't handle it. Therefore if you want to
back up a TB HD you are looking at over 24 hours!!!! Meanwhile the
device will run all your other HDs, your processor (too be fair it
seems to back odd whenever the resources are used elsewhere).
Further you will have to connect to networks drives every time you
boot up (do they even use this term anymore?), which is more down
time.
Better to just get a USB drive and use it for back up. Or wait a
few months and get a USB 3 drive for back up. Seriously this is
like having a tanker tied to a scooter. Don't do it.

Western Digital My Book World Edition II - 2 TB review.
I have had the NAS for a month or so. The unit is configured as
raid 1. I originally transfered several hundred GB of data and
found the unit had over heating problems while transferring large
amounts of data over long periods of time. I actually used a small
fan to cool the unit. Once the transfer was complete the problem
has not continued. The data transfer rate is good with Gig Ethernet
router. The streaming video performance is good with the NAS to all
PC's on the network.
I would recommend for heavy users a NAS with a fan. Hard drives
last longer when running cool.
Nice package, like the changeable drives
